Job Description
ATCS, PLC seeks an energetic, highly motivated, detail:oriented, self:starter to join our team as an Traffic Operations Engineer for our Herndon office.
The candidate must demonstrate technical and professional competency in traffic engineering, transportation planning and ITS technologies as it relates to the safety, planning, engineering, design, and operational needs of transportation systems. The chosen candidate must apply broad knowledge of leading:edge transportation engineering principles and techniques as well as an understanding of the technologies applied in improving the efficiency, reliability, resilience and safety of transportation systems. Experience in all types of traffic studies, development of microsimulation networks, analysis of transportation datasets and having a vision for research and innovation is desired. The candidate must possess and apply understanding of traffic signal operations and design, and, efficiently lead tasks involving transportation simulation (using
SYNCHRO/SIMTRAFFIC, SIDRA, VISSIM or related software) and signal optimization plans to improve transportation system performance. Familiarity with systems engineering applications within transportation and
connected/autonomous vehicle operations and research is a definite plus.
The candidate will routinely interact and present to a variety of clients ranging from private companies and cities to Departments of Transportation. The candidate should be able to analyze and document findings in technical memos, project reports and research summaries. The candidate should be able to routinely manage traffic engineering task orders as part of larger on:call contracts. Responsibilities include the development and implementation of task orders from inception of approach through completion of final reports and presentations; management of project staff and budgets; quantitative and qualitative analysis; and participation in business development activities including advance marketing, proposal writing, and interviews. The candidate must possess good written and verbal communication skills and be able to seamlessly juggle between competing projects and priorities.
Minimum 3 years of experience in traffic studies and traffic operations analyses is a prerequisite. A Bachelors degree in a civil engineering or comparable field is a prerequisite. A Masters Degree in Civil Engineering is a plus. PE is desired.
