Martins Herend Imports, Inc. (Martins) is the sole importer and wholesale distributor of Herend porcelain and Moser crystal for the entire US market. As a family:owned and operated business since its inception in 1957, the majority of Martins 30 employees work in its main office conveniently located off of Route 28 in Sterling, VA.
Martins is seeking a full:time Accounting Manager who will be responsible for all areas of financial reporting while having access to the outside CPA firm the company uses. Supervising two employees (A/P, A/R), and reporting directly to the President and Vice President, the incumbent will perform work utilizing Martins company specific accounting software.
This position will be responsible for maintaining accounting principles, practices and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting. This position entails meeting deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities including general ledger preparation, financial reporting, audit preparation and the support and/or reporting of budget and forecast activities. The Accounting Manager will have contact with multiple departments, retail customers, sales reps, external CPA firm, and vendors, all of which requires strong interpersonal communication skills (written and verbal).
Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure.
Ensure the timely reporting of monthly financial information.
Perform monthly bank accounts reconciliations in a timely and accurate manner.
Call on delinquent accounts and submit to collections, if necessary.
Work with department stores to reconcile charge back fees.
Perform wire transfers as needed.
Assist with the annual financial audit.
Work with external CPA firm to ensure accurate and timely year:end close.
Assist the external CPA firm with the compilation of information for the Companys annual tax returns.
Responds to inquiries from the President, VP, and external CPA firm.
Monitors and analyzes department work to maximize efficiency while maintaining a high level of accuracy which emphasizes internal controls.
Advises staff and provides training to new and existing staff as needed.
Strong interpersonal, supervisory and customer service skills required.
Ability to multi:task, work under pressure, meet deadlines, and stay organized.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills; must have good command of the English language, oral and written.
Education and Prior Experience
o Associates degree or equivalent of education and work experience.
o Minimum of 2 : 5 years of accounting experience; supervisory experience preferred.
Technical Skills
Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
o Works with company specific accounting software.
o Work at semi:annual warehouse sales.
o Enjoy the occasional visit of the owners pet dog in the office.
o Preference of working in a small organization.
o Special projects as required.
